gives you 1 class to make sure you familiarise yourself with the
school, the instructors and of course to help you feel comfortable with
the material you will be learning.

Q: Do I have to enter
competitions?
A: No competition is always
completely optional. Many of our students simply enjoy the training and all its benefits
without ever participating in any competition.
But if you are interested we offer you can become a member of the MAQLD
Competition Team and compete in local state national and international
tournaments like many members at our school.

Self Defence Program
Q: How old does my child
have to be to start training?
A: We recommend that children start at 5-6
years old. However, since no two kids are the same, and there can be
significant differences in coordination and maturity. We can asses your
child and see if they are mature enough to start training

Q: How large are your
class sizes?
A: Class sizes range between 10 –
30 students in each class.

Q: My child is already
very energetic – I’m afraid martial arts training will encourage
aggression, is this true?
A: Not at all! In fact, martial
arts provides an outlet for children in which to channel aggression and
excess energy. Our children’s programs focus on developing behavioral and
attitudinal aspects inherent with martial arts such as respect,
confidence, discipline and control. Through providing a fun and safe
atmosphere for kids, we can foster a healthy environment in which they can
learn and develop not only self-defense skills, but life skills as well.

Q: Teaching kids is not
easy – what qualifications do your instructors have to teach my
child?
A: Teaching kids is definitely not
easy! But it is one of the most rewarding experiences in the world. All of
our instructors have been certified to teach through the Australian
Jujitsu Federation. They also hold blue cards and first aid certificates.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program
Q: Is Jujitsu all
grappling and wrestling?
A: Yes our classes focuses on the sport side of
BJJ and ground grappling with an emphasis on mobility, escapes and
attacks on the ground. As well as the standing game of takedowns and
throws.

Q: Will I learn self defense in your
BJJ program?
A: No but is is not hard to turn
what you learn in BJJ into effective self defence.

Q: I’m not in the best shape. Can I still
take a BJJ Class?
A: Of course! In fact, our
classes are an excellent way to get into shape and increase
muscle strength and endurance, cardio, and flexibility.

Q: I haven’t really
exercised in a long time. Is the fitness too intense for me to start
with?
A: One of the great things about
the fitness component ( if your doctor gives you the ok to start a regular exercise
program) is that you start off at your own pace, gradually increasing the
level of intensity as you get more fit.

Q: Am I too old to start?
A: If you are able to play a recreational
sport, participate in a fitness class, go for a jog or a swim then you
should be fine to start up training. You’re only as old as you feel, give yourself a
chance to feel as young as you can.

Q: I’m not in the best
shape. Can I still take a Class?
A: Of course! Our classes are
designed so that beginners can set their own individual pace, and
progressively increase their own level of intensity. Our Instructors are
there to guide and motivate you, but ultimately, the intensity level of
your workout is in your hands.
