Black Belt Self-Defence requirements

Dojo etiquette.
Student knowlege.

  • All grading examinations must be conducted under and with the authority of the School Principal.
  • Promotional opportunities are provided three to four times per year for all students to grade.  Individual gradings can be held outside designated times at the discretion of the School Principal.
  • The nominated time limits between gradings require full and active participation in structured classes in the dojo and are to be regarded as an absolute minimum standard.
  • Grading examinations may be conducted in separate sessions at the discretion of the School Principal.
  • Black Belts to be a min age of 16 years.
  • Each belt with a white stripe through the middle indicates that the student has achieved the required fitness level.

*Students will be recognised at each grading for their efforts and knowledge they have achieved over the previous 4 months training.  Students can achieve more then one bar at a time at gradings based on their ability.

Knowledge

 

B          Demonstrate basic knowledge and the countering of the following attackers.

BOXER:         Characteristics

                        -Usually a well conditioned body (physically fit and strong).

                        -Strong rigid stance.

                        -Can take a hit to the head & body.

                        -Very good at close range with his hands.

                        -Must move to hit you (boxers usually move forward to attack).

                       

                        Defence

                        -DO NOT TRADE PUNCHES WITH A BOXER

-Put up your hands and let him think you are going to fight his fight, when he  commits, change your fighting stance and attack to suit your own style of fighting.

                        -Use kicking techniques to counter his strong punching, kicking will give

                         you distance to work with.

-Striking areas should include groin, knees, temples and also the use of the hair to control the attacker.

                        -Taking the boxer to the ground and use submission techniques

                          e.g. strangles, chokes and joint locking.

 

BRAWLER:   Characteristics

                        -The brawlers advantage is his unpredictability.

-Usually the brawler has allot of fights and there for can take allot of  punishment and is not afraid of being hit.

-The brawler can shock you with his type of attack e.g. throwing dirt, his drink or spitting in your face.

                        -Will not stop until he has defeated his victim at any cost

 

                        Defence

-With a brawler not having a specific fighting style, you must be able to  adapt to him very quickly and read his advances.

-An advantage of a trained Ju-Jutsu exponent has over the untrained fighter is that his techniques are usually thrown at random and is happy no matter what he hits. A trained fighter can focus his techniques to be  sure they connect with their targets thus saving valuable energy and time.

                        -Take your time and pick your targets don't fight his fight.

 

WRESTLER  Characteristics

-Physically strong in the arms and upper body.  (strong grip very hard to break free from).

                        -Wrestlers are usually in a low,  strong and open stance.

                        -Wants to take you to the ground.

                       

                        Defence

                        -DO NOT GRAPPLE WITH THE WRESTLER

                        -Use kicks to keep maintain distance (aim for knees and groin).

                        -Maintain distance from attacker to ensure he does not grab you.

-If grappling situation occurs use your elbows and knees to strike also use the attackers hair and eye’s to avoid being thrown to the ground   (finish as quickly as possible).

 

MARTIAL ARTIST  Characteristics

                        -Very proficient with legs and hands as weapons.

                        -Depending on style aggressive or defensive tactics used.

                        -Physically fit, strong with quick reflexes.

-Can use long or short range weapons e.g. kicks, knees, elbows and grappling.

                        -Mentally trained to fight and win at any cost.

                        -stances will vary depending on style.

 

                        Defence

                        -Surprise.

                        -Attack vital areas e.g. knees, groin and throat.

-Work out what type of fighter he is and use this against him e.g. A Tae kwon Do fighter prefers to use his legs so bridge the gap and take him to the ground, A judo player likes to grapple so keep him at a distance with your legs.

-Put up your hands and drop into a stance let him think you are going to fight his fight, when he  commits, change your fighting stance and  attack to suit your own style of fighting (finish as quickly as possible).

Self Defence

Strangles rear:                                1. Back fist to groin turn and knee to groin

Headlock side                                 1. Reach up grab face, pull back & strike to groin                                                                                 2. Press sub-clavian nerve point

3. Pressure point in back of knee (Popliteal)

5. As coming on, push on their elbow slide underneath trap hand, chain punch to face and body

Headlock front:                              1. Place arm around attacker’s neck, turn up & out

2. As coming on block turn underneath, apply a straight arm lock (Ude Gatame)

3. Place left hand on side of knee, apply pressure to femoral nerve with knuckle or thumb

4. Place arm around attacker’s neck, and turn, neck lock

5. Push to jugular notch.

 

Bearhugs Behind (over arms):      1. Hip aside, strike to groin with knife hand

                                                            2. Scrape shin stomp on foot

                                                            3. Knuckle rub and control

4. As coming on block both hands slide underneath apply shoulder lock (Waki Gatame) knee to face

5. Hip aside, strike to groin with knife hand, Suki Nage.
